Rates

What will it cost?

Normally each party will pay an equal proportion of the costs, unless otherwise agreed.
I.e. Two parties, 50% each etc.

CIVIL COMMERCIAL AND WORKPLACE

  • Given the varied nature of disputes both as to complexity and value, we prefer to discuss charging rates with all clients prior to agreeing to mediate. We feel this is fair to all parties
  • Travel is charged at 0.60p per mile or at cost if public transport is used.
  • Venue is charged at cost if appropriate.
  • All costings are exclusive of VAT which is charged at the current rate.

Whilst we can always provide a venue for the mediation, normally at no extra cost, the parties are free to organise a suitable venue for the mediation themselves. All we ask is that there is at least one room for each party to the dispute and if possible a separate area for the mediator to make notes and gather thoughts etc.

FAMILY

Again each party will normally bear an equal proportion of the costs unless otherwise agreed.
The first and second meetings will normally last for approximately 90 minutes, whereafter sessions might last for much longer, depending upon whether the parties and the mediator choose the standard or hybrid model. Click here for an explanation of standard model and hybrid model.

  • We will discuss fees with the parties prior to agreeing to mediate in family cases. Complex cases will attract a higher fee per hour, but rest assured that we are unlikely to ever exceed the cost of going to court,
  • Travel is charged at 0.60p per mile or at  cost if public transport is used.
  • Venue is charged at cost if appropriate.
  • All costings are exclusive of VAT which is charged at the current rate.

For example if a fee of £200 per hour is agreed for a standard model mediation
the first session will cost £300 plus VAT at 20% totalling £360.00; divided 50% to each party, gives a figure for each of £180.00 incl.VAT, depending upon whether the mediator has to travel to the venue.
It should be noted that it may be necessary to negotiate an extra reading fee in very complex cases at each or any stage of the process.
Again the parties are free to organise a venue of their choice, and the mediator will travel to them if required.

PRE-PAYMENT

We ask for pre-payment of the mediator's fees before the commencement of the mediation. How to do this is explained in an explanatory letter which will be sent to you.
In civil, commercial and workplace cases, we will assess the likely minimum length of the mediation and ask for a down payment reflecting that number of assessed hours, payable normally at least 7 days prior to the mediation.
In Family cases, the first and second sessions will be charged as full 90 minute sessions, whereafter separate arrangements may be made between the parties and the mediator.
